EnviroMac Newsletter: ISSUE 4 / August 2013 Dear clients and subscribers This month features the publication of the actual amendment bills in respect of various laws which now includes a request for public comment within 30 days. The period ends on 16 September 2013. The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs also published her intent to declare hydraulic fracturing a controlled activity in terms of the National Water Act, as per our recent newsflash. We should also mention the commencement of various regulations in respect of the classification of waste, landfill designs and numerous other requirements regarding waste management in terms of the NEM: Waste Act. This latest development is sure to have far-reaching implications not only for industry in general, but also in particular the mining industry once Residue Stockpiles and Deposits are regulated in terms of the NEM: Waste Act, as per the proposed amendment bill. This 4th edition of the EnviroMac brings us up to speed with legislative movements in the Environmental and Mining fields to the end of August 2013. The legal developments during September will be featured in the 5th edition which we intend to publish on or before 15 October 2013.
