The President has assented to the National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Amendment Act 36 of 2014, which amends the NEM:ICA by, inter alia -
- Clarifying coastal public property and the ownership of structures erected on and in coastal public property;
- Removing the power to exclude areas from coastal public property;
- Replacing coastal leases and concessions with coastal use permits;
- Limiting the renewal of dumping permits.
The Amendment Act comes into operation within six months of the date of publication in the Gazette (i.e. 30 April 2015) or such earlier date as determined by proclamation by the President in the Gazette.
