MINERAL AND PETROLEUM RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT ACT (28/2002): THE REGULATIONS FOR PETROLEUM EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION

The Minister of Mineral Resources has amended the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Regulations published under GNR 1288 of 29 October 2004, by the insertion of Part IV.

Part IV sets out the requirements applicable to onshore exploration and production operations, including hydraulic fracturing, also referred to as fracking. Part IV prescribes regulations in respect of environmental impact assessments; well design and construction; operations management; and well suspension and decommissioning. Furthermore, schedule 1 sets out those substances which are prohibited from being used as additives to hydraulic fracturing fluids.
