Marine Living Resources Act (18/1998): Regulations for the Management of the Prince Edward Islands Marine Protected Area.

The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 77(2)(x)(i) of the Marine Living Resources Act 18 of 1998, made Regulations for the Management of the Prince Edward Islands Marine Protected Area. The purpose of these regulations is to, inter alia –

  1. Contribute to a national and global representative system of marine protected areas;
  2. Provide scientific reference points that can inform the management of the area and to be able to understand better the impacts of Climate Change on the whole Southern Ocean;
  3. Facilitate integrated and ecologically sustainable management of marine resources of the area; and
  4. Reduce the ecological impacts of fisheries and other extractive industries.

The Notice published under GNR 252 on 5 April 2013, in respect of the regulations for the management of the Prince Edward Islands Marine Protected Area, was withdrawn under GNR 427 on 21 June 2013.
