The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs has published her intention to introduce the National Environmental Management: Waste Amendment Bill, 2013 in Parliament during August 2013. The Bill intends to effect various amendments to the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 59 of 2008 including, inter alia, -
- Clarifying the spheres of government required to compile an integrated waste management plans;
- Providing for the exclusion of the provincial department responsible for waste management in the compilation of an industry waste management plan;
- Requiring the MEC responsible for waste management to act in concurrence with the Minister when requesting certain persons to compile and submit industry waste management plans; and
- Providing for transitional arrangements regarding authorisations issued in terms of the Environment Conservation Act 73 of 1989.
