The Chief Inspector of Mines has, in terms of section 49(6) of the MHSA, issued the guideline for cyanide management as set out in this notice.
The main objective of this guideline is to enable the employer at every mine where it is relevant to compile a code of practice, which, if properly implemented and complied with, would improve cyanide management, thereby minimising risks to employees and communities from the use of cyanide in gold mining, and reducing community concerns about its use.
