AIR QUALITY CONTROL BY-LAW

The Swellendam Municipality has, under the provisions of section 156 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, enacted the By-Law pertaining to Air Quality Control.

The by-law places a duty of care on any person responsible for causing air pollution or creating a risk of air pollution to prevent or mitigate any potential air pollution. Further, the by-law regulates, inter alia, smoke emissions; emissions caused by open-burning; emissions from compressed ignition powered vehicles; emissions that cause nuisance; offensive odours and dust nuisance.
