NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: WASTE ACT (59/2008): AMENDMENT TO THE LIST OF WASTE MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES THAT HAVE, OR ARE LIKELY TO HAVE, A DETRIMENTAL EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of section 19(2)(b) of the NEM:WA, amended the list of waste management activities that have, or are likely to have a detrimental effect on the environment published under GNR 921 of 29 November 2013 (“GNR 921”) by –

  • The deletion of the waste management activity listed under Category A of GNR 921 “the sorting, shredding, grinding, crushing, screening or bailing of general waste at a facility that has an operational area in excess of 1000 m2”; and
  • The insertion of the waste management activity under Category C of GNR 921 of “the sorting, shredding, grinding, crushing, screening or baling of general waste at a waste facility that has an operational area that is 1000m2 and more”.
