The Minister of Environmental Affairs has informed the issuing authorities specified in section 87A(2) of the NEMBA, that in order to monitor compliance and provide the necessary technical support contemplated in section 59(a) and (d) of the NEMBA with respect to trade in listed threatened or protected species, the issuing authorities are required to submit all applications relating to the authorisation of international trade in rhinoceros (white rhino - Ceratotherium simum and black rhino - Diceros bicornis) specimens to the DEA for consideration and recommendation prior to issuing of the permits.
