NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: PROTECTED AREAS ACT (57/2003)

The Minister of Environmental Affairs has, in terms of sections 48A(2) and 86(1)(a), (b), (c) and (d) of the NEMPAA, published for public comment, the draft Regulations for the Management of the following proposed marine protected areas –

  • The Namaqua Fossil Forest Marine Protected Area (GNR 99 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Protea Banks Marine Protected Area (GNR 100 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Port Elizabeth Corals Marine Protected Area (GNR 101 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Agulhas Bank Complex Marine Protected Area (GNR 102 on 3 February 2016);
  • The UThukela Banks Marine Protected Area (GNR 103 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Orange Shelf Edge Marine Protected Area (GNR 104 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Benguela Bank Marine Protected Area (GNR 105 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Aliwal Shoal Marine Protected Area (GNR 110 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Agulhas Muds Marine Protected Area (GNR 111 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Amathole Offshore Marine Protected Area (GNR 113 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Addo Elephant Marine Protected Area (GNR 114 on 3 February 2016);
  • The Browns Bank Corals Marine Protected Area (GNR 117 on 3 February 2016);
  • The iSimangaliso Marine Protected Area (GNR 118 on 3 February 2016);

  • The Childs Bank Marine Protected Area (GNR 186 on 17 February 2016).

Members of the public are invited to submit written comments within 90 days from the date of publication of these notices (i.e. on or before 3 May 2016).
