The Department of Environmental Affairs has given notice that the Minister of Environmental Affairs, upon becoming aware of the Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa's (“REDISA”) intention to cease collection of waste tyres with effect from 1 June 2017, filed an urgent liquidation court application with the Cape Town High Court to safe guard the operations and assets associated with the REDISA Integrated Industry Waste Tyre Management Plan (“IIWTMP”). It is hereby notified that the application was successful and a court order was made and has been served on REDISA.

In terms of the Court Order, Darusha Moodliar from Sanek Trust Services has been appointed as the liquidator who will take immediate control of the business of REDISA, including the implementation of the IIWTMP.

This notice requests that all role players cooperate with the Liquidator, Waste Management Bureau and the Department and provides that the Waste Bureau and the Department will, in the next couple of days, be sending further communication with regards to the next steps to keep all stakeholders abreast of developments.
