The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs published for public comment, notice of her intention to declare the Vredefort Dome as a World Heritage site. The Vredefort Dome straddles the westerly flowing Vaal River, which also forms the administrative boundary of the North West Province and the Free State Province, South Africa. It is located approximately 120 km to the south and west of Johannesburg.
