The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy hereby publishes the Draft Mine Closure Strategy 2021 for public comment.
The aim of regional mine closure is to prevent or minimize adverse long-term environmental and socio-economic impacts, and to create a self-sustaining natural ecosystem or alternate land use. The Regional Closure Strategy will therefore set specific standards for all mines and promote the alignment of individual mine closure plans and regional mine closure plans.
Interested and affected parties may submit written representations to the Department on or before 23 July 2021.
